Leading up to the 2020 election, it feels like so much is on the line. Not just the presidency, but our country’s response to the pandemic affecting so many worldwide, as well as a referendum on the war against women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized groups that we’ve seen on the streets of America in 2020 – there’s just never been so much at stake.
It is with this in mind that Rival Waves released the video for “Smile Empty Soul” the second song from the band’s upcoming LP, A Meaningless Chaos. Directed by the band’s lead vocalist, Joel De La Garza, the video is a reflection on life for so many of us in 2020. “The hope in the face of hopelessness and the justification of anger fuel the images and energy in this song. We can only hope this anger and fear carries through spawns action to spur on this change we’re looking for.”

Time to make up for lost time. It’s time to reflect and learn from past mistakes. Beyond time to roll up our sleeves, turn our faces to the sun, and start figuring things out. High time to take advantage of the dwindling opportunities we have provided ourselves to steady the ship, attempt to right it, and begin navigating these choppy seas back to shore.
This is our charge. For our generation. To honor those that have come before us. To pave a better way forward for those to come.
What better place than here? What better time than now? ~ RW
