Rival Waves Return to the Studio to Record New Music in 2026
The Austin alt-rock band confirms new material is in development following a milestone-breaking run.
Rival Waves Are Recording New Music
Rival Waves have confirmed they are back in the studio working on new material. The announcement follows a strong run of milestones for the Austin, Texas, alternative rock band. In 2025, Rival Waves surpassed 1 million total streams and eclipsed the 200,000-stream mark for their single “New Fear.”Â
The band has gone heads-down and deep into their next era. They’ve been writing, recording, and making decisions that feel different from anything they’ve done before. The results are more focused, more deliberate, and a whole lot more strategically intense.
What to Expect From New Rival Waves
Specific details will be announced soon, but the band has briefly described the direction of the upcoming release. Phrases like “more emotionally intentional” and “a bit more nuanced and textured” were heard. Other members said these songs are even harder-hitting than previous efforts.
Rival Waves is known for a sound that draws from alt-rock, grunge, and hard rock influences, with production that emphasizes live energy and lyrical directness. That said, a shift to a sound they are describing as more “insular, and moody…a look inward when so much of what we’ve done has been outward” seems like a purposeful departure from the band’s previous offerings.
