Six months after release, the Austin rock single continues to climb the charts.
‘New Fear’ Doubles Its Stream Count to 200,000
Austin alternative rock band Rival Waves has announced that their single “New Fear” has surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify — doubling its count since the 100,000-stream milestone reached in August 2025.Â
The Lunar Drive Records release has demonstrated sustained growth across streaming platforms, continuing to land in playlists and reach new listeners well past its initial release.
What makes this one special is the slow burn. “New Fear” has kept finding new ears months after release — new playlists, new listeners in new cities, new fans discovering Rival Waves for the first time through a single that still sounds urgent every time it plays.
Why ‘New Fear’ Keeps Growing
Unlike tracks that spike at release and fade, “New Fear” has shown algorithmic longevity on Spotify, benefiting from playlist placement, editorial consideration, and consistent word-of-mouth sharing among fans of alternative rock, grunge, and hard rock. The track has been described by Right Chord Music as capturing “the raw energy of classic alternative rock while injecting enough freshness to feel both contemporary and timeless.”
In other words, even at 200k streams, “New Fear” still hits like it did on day one.
Rival Waves in 2026
Rival Waves has indicated that new music is actively in development for 2026. The Austin four-piece is currently working on a new, sonically adventurous EP, which will be due out in the first half of 2026, and plans for a full-length follow-up to A Meaningless Chaos are scheduled for release later in the year.
