On the heels of their 2018 debut album TRANSDUCER, Rival Waves is stoked to announce that they will be releasing their followup single "Hwy 100" to global digital platforms Friday, July 19th.
The summer-tinged track is a lyrical tribute to Rival Waves singer/songwriter Joel De La Garza's upbringing in the Rio Grande Valley. Hwy 100 was the stretch of road linking his hometown of San Benito, Texas with the tropical paradise Spring Break destination that is South Padre Island. A song of youthful escape, innocence, and the reckless abandon of youth makes it the kind of song tailor-made for the summer.
The band is stoked to celebrate this summer song's release into the world at Mohawk Sat. July 20th. Rival Waves is thrilled to be joined by their amazing new friends, V3CO and Buzz Electro.
Buzz Electro brings that heavy desert blues magic that does that mystical thing it does. If you dig that dangerously sexy QOTSA sound, you're definitely gonna like their vibe. Check them out at https://buzzelectro.bandcamp.com and watch them kick this '68 Camero of a summer evening off into high gear with the top down.
Rival Waves blends propulsive, distortion-soaked rock anthems with sweeping personal and political themes. Armed with arena-ready songs that have garnered initial comparisons to bands like Pearl Jam and U2, Rival Waves is consistently driven to create a more meaningful connection between art and audience. With a DIY ethos focused on the convergence of music and tech, an inclination towards consistent musical experimentation, and an earnest lyrical commitment to topics ranging from the intimately personal to the sociopolitical, Rival Waves take their cues from Fugazi as much as they do Foo Fighters. Jonathan Horstmann (BLXPLTN and Urban Heat Island Effect) will be bringing all the analog afro-futurism with his new solo synth project, V3CO. He'll be closing out the evening with some of the coolest beats, loops, hooks, bleeps, bloops and overall awesomeness you could ask for. This dude is legit!
